Why 3 Labs Gunsmithing?
I started with the name of Lilac City Gunsmithing mostly because I do not have much imagination and since I live in the Lilac City I decided to register that name and start my business.
After getting started, I became aware that “Lila City” is being used by too many other business types. (Painting, Cabinets, you name it.) So I started looking for a new name that was not so regional or geographic. One evening while sitting with the Mrs., I was looking at the fridge that is full of magnets and signs. There is a couple magnets that are of Labs. 1 Black, 1 Brown, and 2 Yellow. Over the years we have had all three colors. Ding, the light goes on, and said to my wife, Janet, that we should name the business 3 Labs Gunsmithing and base our story of owning the 3 labs. She agreed instantly.
Here we are now with the new name.
In the past and present we have owned Casey, our first lab that was brown. Sadie was the second and Black. Now we have the current one that is yellow named Harley.
Casey . . . I was able to train her in my back yard to hunt birds. In the following years (6 or 8) she and I hunted along side my wonderful friends from Pheasants Forever and competed in many Bird Dog Challenges in the area. We brought home a few ribbons.
Sadie . . . . She joined the team about the time that Casey was about 3 three years old. I started her training and we had a great time in the field. Casey was involved in her training. When I put both of them in the field, I could tell that Casey was teaching how to track, etc. Something I could not do.
Time passed and at 13 Casey became ill and left us so the only one left was Sadie. We had to move and give up the bird hunting. Sadie was a wonderful house pet that eventually became Janet’s service dog and enjoyed her retirement years with us. At 14 she left us.
Harley . . . .When Sadie was gone, Janet and I decided to not get any more pets. Ya right! A few months passed and we decided that the house was just too quiet! We eventually bought Harley to make the noise that we missed. We have trained her again to be Janet’s service dog. But, just by happenstance, we figured out that she would come wake me if there was something weird going on. We trained her to be my alert dog. I am deaf in my left ear and can not hear if I have my right ear to the pillow (which is most of the time), and she travels with us now and loves to ride with us. And of course is a great companion. Her energy at 5 is still like she was a pup. Always want to play and stay close to us all the time. When one of us is gone, she waits by the door ’til the other comes home.
I guess my point is that dogs can, and will, be loyal to it’s owner(s) without question. Treat them well and they will treat you well. Casey and Sadie would hunt for me and could not wait to hit the field. That was fun to them, and when I gave them praise for bringing back the birds I shot, they could not wait to get back out. As it goes, with hunting dogs, age catches up to them and it is time to retire. We took care of them in retirement, as anyone should, until they passed.
So we are more less dedicating the business and website to all of our past and present companions.
That’s our story and we’re sticking to it!!!!! LOL
